We are proud to certify the first legislative body against ISO/IEC 42001 – AI management system (AIMS).
Bahrain’s Council of Representatives has received multiple international certifications recognizing its advanced adoption of global management standards, including ISO/IEC 42001, which makes it the first legislative body worldwide to obtain this certification.
This reflects our broader commitment to responsible and transparent AI governance, an area where we continue to empower organizations globally through certification, assurance and training that translate emerging standards into practical, trusted systems.
Samih Ayadi, Managing Director of SGS Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, said: “We congratulate the council on this exceptional achievement. Being the first in Bahrain and the first legislative body worldwide to achieve ISO/IEC 42001 demonstrates true leadership and forward thinking in responsible AI governance.”
The council also received ISO/IEC 27001 (information security management systems) and ISO 14001 (environmental management systems) certifications, reflecting a comprehensive and integrated approach to responsible governance, sustainability and secure digital transformation.

The certifications were presented during a meeting between Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary General of the Council of Representatives, and Samih Ayadi, Managing Director of SGS Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.
Engr. Mohamed Ebrahim Al-Sisi Al-Buainain, Secretary General – Council of Representatives, said: “The adoption of these standards enhanced institutional efficiency, improved legislative and oversight service quality, and supported digital transformation through stronger system integration, accuracy and stakeholder confidence.”
Together, ISO/IEC 42001, ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 14001 form a unified governance framework that strengthens how the council manages technology, information security and environmental responsibility in a highly interconnected legislative environment.
ISO/IEC 42001 provides a structured framework for the use of AI and advanced digital systems, ensuring that AI-driven tools are deployed responsibly, transparently and in alignment with ethical and regulatory expectations. This is particularly critical for a legislative body entrusted with public accountability and data-driven decision-making.
ISO/IEC 27001 helps safeguard the confidentiality, integrity and availability of legislative and oversight-related information. It ensures that digital platforms, smart systems and data flows supporting parliamentary work are protected against cyber risks and unauthorized access, enabling secure and resilient digital transformation.
ISO 14001 complements the other standards by embedding environmental responsibility into institutional operations. By managing environmental impacts, reducing waste and supporting sustainable resource use, the council aligns its internal practices with national and global sustainability objectives, reinforcing its role as a responsible public institution.
Integrating the three management system standards has delivered measurable benefits to Bahrain’s House of Representatives. Together, they have strengthened operational efficiency, the consistency and quality of legislative and oversight services, and embedded a culture of structured governance and continuous improvement across the Secretariat.
The integrated framework has also enabled more effective digital transformation by aligning processes, data governance and risk management across smart systems. This integration has enhanced execution speed, accuracy and reliability of operations, and reduced fragmentation between functions.
As a result, institutional transparency and accountability have increased, reinforcing confidence among internal stakeholders and external partners in the robustness and credibility of parliamentary outcomes.
ISO/IEC 42001 is the world’s first international standard for an AIMS.
It provides a certifiable framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continuously improving responsible AI practices.
Certification demonstrates a company’s commitment to transparency, fairness and data protection while ensuring that AI is developed and deployed safely and ethically.
The standard helps organizations integrate strong governance structures, balance innovation with accountability, and ensure that safeguards around data quality, security and continuous learning are in place.
By aligning AI management with globally recognized benchmarks, ISO/IEC 42001 strengthens trust in AI-driven solutions and contributes to broader sustainability and compliance goals.
Whatever your industry, size, location and AI technology, our comprehensive ISO/IEC 42001 services are ready to support your mission.
