International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ISCC) is the leading sustainability certification system for renewable fuels.
The International Sustainability Carbon Certification (ISCC) EU scheme is designed for the transport and energy sector in the bloc. It verifies your compliance with the EU’s RED III sustainability requirements and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction criteria for renewable fuels and producing electricity, heating and cooling from biomass. ISCC EU also covers additional ecological and social requirements outside of RED III.
What are the benefits of ISCC EU certification?
- Access more markets, build relationshipsComply with a leading sustainability certification scheme and gain access to multiple markets, including the EU, UK and Queensland (Australia), potentially increasing sales and partnerships.
- Reduce and track GHG emissionsUtilize methodology, rules and guidelines to accurately calculate, report and verify your emissions reductions, enhancing your brand and reputation.
- Conserve resourcesEffectively use waste materials and non-food biomass for fuel production, decreasing pressure on food resources and land use.
- A multi-stakeholder approachTrain and equip your team to adopt the scheme, promptly react to market developments and actively engage in dialogue with fellow stakeholders.
- Continuous improvement across the boardEnsure continuous improvement internally while ISCC constantly enhances the scheme’s quality.

FAQ
ISCC EU is a sustainability certification for the transport and energy sector in the EU.
The basis of every ISCC EU certification is the use of alternative feedstocks. These can be waste and residues, sustainably grown agricultural feedstocks, renewable electricity and sustainable forest biomass.
Materials derived from alternative feedstocks can be classified into:
- Agricultural biomass
- Forest biomass
- Waste and residues
- Renewable energy
ISCC EU certification can demonstrate compliance in key regulatory markets, including the EU, UK and Queensland (Australia).
Depending on the selected certification system, different materials can be certified.
ISCC provides a list of certifiable materials for each certification system. All materials covered under ISCC EU and ISCC CORSIA can be covered under ISCC PLUS.
The following can be ISCC EU certified:
- Biofuels: liquid fuels derived from biomass, specifically for transportation
- Bioliquids: liquid fuels produced from biomass for energy purposes other than transport, such as electricity, heating and cooling
- Biomass fuels: gaseous and solid fuels produced from biomass
The ISCC EU certification approach can cover renewable fuels of non-biological origin (RFNBOs), such as renewable hydrogen and recycled carbon fuels (RCFs).
