US introduces two proposals to regulate specified chemicals in food contact materials (FCMs) and articles.
In June and July 2026, the US House of Representatives (HR) introduced two bills to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) by prohibiting specified chemicals in FCMs and articles:
- HR 9321, the No Toxic Chemicals in Food Packaging Act of 2026
- HR 9593, the Keep Food Containers Safe from PFAS Act of 2026
What do the proposals require and when do they intend to apply?
