On June 13, 2024, SGS in Pakistan, in collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), hosted a focused training session on Chemical Management and REACH in Karachi. The event targeted key representatives from the textile and leather sectors, offering tailored insights into industry-specific challenges.

The session saw an active participation of 25 representatives from nearly 15 different sectors within Pakistan's textile industry. The training aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of Chemical Management and REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization, and Restriction of Chemicals). This European Union regulation establishes procedures for collecting and assessing information on the properties and hazards of substances.
Led by Naeem Minhas, an approved and certified Chemical Management and REACH trainer at SGS Pakistan, provided participants with valuable insights into the complexities of Chemical Management and REACH. Key areas covered during the session included:
- Regulatory requirements
- Chemical registration process
- Risk evaluation mitigation associated with chemical substances
Participants responded positively, praising the value of the training. The session combined theoretical knowledge with practical exercises and assessments, strengthening their understanding of Chemical Management and REACH, and enabling them to apply these insights within their industries.

At the end of the training session, an exam was conducted to evaluate the participants' grasp of the material covered. Upon successful completion of the exam, they were awarded certificates, validating their proficiency in the subject matter.
This collaborative training session between SGS Pakistan and WWF highlighted our commitment to promoting safer and more sustainable practices within industries. We look forward to hosting more similar sessions in the future, equipping businesses with the knowledge and tools to manage chemicals responsibly and contribute to a more sustainable future.
