We are pleased to announce a major milestone in our commitment to environmental stewardship and high-quality analytical services in East Africa. Our environmental testing laboratory in Tanzania, originally launched in 2007 and accredited to ISO/IEC 17025, has moved to a new, modern facility in Mwanza.
Although the grand opening ceremony is scheduled for early 2026, the laboratory has been fully operational since September 2025, and clients are already welcome to submit samples for analysis.
A Facility Built for Excellence
The new premises, spanning 1,200 m², represent a significant upgrade from the previous location. Designed in line with the latest global best practices for laboratory infrastructure, the facility enhances sample integrity, minimizes cross-contamination risks and strengthens overall testing quality.
SGS Tanzania continues to offer comprehensive physicochemical and microbiological analysis of water, soil, sediment, plant tissue and air. Now, with expanded floor space and upgraded workflows, the lab is better positioned than ever to deliver fast, accurate and reliable results.

The move into the Mwanza industrial area brings several clear advantages:
- Closer to clients: Located within an active industrial zone, the lab is now positioned at the doorstep of many of its key stakeholders, making sample delivery faster and more convenient.
- Improved accessibility: Excellent road connections provide seamless logistics across Tanzania and neighboring regions.
- More space, more capacity: With additional laboratory rooms, expanded storage and new equipment, the facility now supports a broader testing scope and significantly improved turnaround times.
- Smart design for quality and safety: Laboratory spaces were designed with modern workflows in mind, helping ensure precision in testing and reducing the risk of cross-contamination. The increased space also enhances occupational safety for staff.
- Higher throughput: The upgraded setup enables the lab to process up to 200,000 tests per year, supporting growing environmental monitoring needs across the region.
