Insights Into CPSC's Adoption of ANSI/UL 4200A-2023

Children want to explore, and young children have a tendency to put most of what they find laying around the house in their mouths.   For Coin lithium batteries, which are also known as button batteries,  if swallowed, they can cause serious injury or death.  According to CPSC, from 2011 through 2021, there were 27 deaths and an estimated 54,300 injuries treated in emergency rooms associated with ingested or inserted button cell or coin batteries.

In Sept 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted and adopted ANSI/UL 4200A-2023 as a safety standard for performance and labeling requirements meeting 16 CFR 1263 to establish alignment with the provisions of Reese`s Law while including the criteria outlined in section 1263.4, which addresses the labeling requirements for button cell and coin battery packaging.  Both rules will be enforced later this year.

In this session, on Friday, March 8th, 2024, our expert will provide an overview of how this legislation impacts various consumer products that incorporates Button Batteries or Coin Cell Batteries to support you reduce risk, improve efficiency, and ensure compliance to contractual or regulatory requirements in all your manufacturing, sourcing, distribution, and retailing operations.
