The increasing number of road accident fatalities is accelerating the demand for reliable automotive safety features. Stricter safety regulations introduced by government bodies and increasing life expectancy are also growing the global airbag market.
Today, airbags are an integral part of all manufactured cars. These passive safety systems play a crucial role in passenger and driver safety, and must pass a variety of tests before they can be installed in vehicles.
At SGS, we provide fully accredited ISO/IEC 17025 testing facilities and offer airbag system deployment testing services in our own state-of-the-art laboratories. These are equipped with high-speed cameras, LED lighting and walk-in chambers, with a temperature range from -40°C to 100°C.
Static Deployment Tests (SDT)
The Static Deployment Test is done on the system level and tests various types of airbag at low, high and room temperatures to see whether changes in temperature affect performance. The type of airbags tested include:
- Driver airbag (DAB)
- Passenger airbag (PAB)
- Side curtain airbag (SCAB)
- Instrument panel (IP)
- Side airbag (SAB)
- Head airbag (HAB)
- Inflatable curtain (IC)
