With the relaxation of regulations in Hong Kong allowing pets in restaurants, SGS, in collaboration with the IBH Pet Industry Development Committee (IBH Petdsc) and veterinary group Pet Space, organized a seminar to mark the official launch of the QPP Pet-Friendly Restaurant Certification Service. Initiated by IBH Petdsc and supported by SGS and Pet Space, the certification aims to help the F&B industry capture emerging opportunities while fostering a safe, pet-inclusive dining environment.

The seminar brought together industry representatives and experts to discuss market trends, operational challenges and response strategies following the policy relaxation, and to exchange best practices in standards and management for pet-friendly dining.
Legislative Council Member Ms. Chan Ka-pui, MH, JP, also attended to share the latest developments in Hong Kong’s pet-friendly dining landscape.

Promoting High Standards to Build a Safe Pet-Inclusive Environment
As pet-friendly restaurants, the industry needs to balance public hygiene, consumer trust, and brand reputation in their operations. QPP Pet-Friendly Restaurant Certification supports restaurants in establishing systematic hygiene management and risk control mechanisms to ensure safety and service quality.
IBH Petdsc highlighted that the certification provides clear guidelines to help the industry prepare for policy changes, enhance service standards and strengthen market competitiveness.

Jack Yuen, our Director, Health & Nutrition, Environment and Natural Resources introduced the certification process and key considerations for hygiene management and risk control. Pet Space also shared insights on industry opportunities and challenges, along with essential knowledge and practical skills related in managing pet behaviour.

The seminar provided participants with a better understanding of certification standards and operational requirements for pet-friendly restaurants. Moving forward, we will continue to promote the adoption of these standards to support the sustainable development of both the F&B and pet industries.
