SGS Awards ISO/IEC 42001 AI Management System Certification to Janus Services

April 30, 2025

We are thrilled to award the ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Information technology - Artificial Intelligence (AI) - Management system certification to Janus Services Limited, a subsidiary of SOCAM Development Limited, under the Shui On Group. This milestone underscores Janus’s commitment to the responsible development and use of AI systems.

The ISO/IEC 42001 certification by SGS confirms that Janus operates in compliance with international standards for AI management systems. The certification covers the development, implementation, maintenance and support of AI-assisted applications, AI functionalities and object detection required to meet the needs of the construction industry and relevant environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria.

In 2024, Janus achieved the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) certification, as well as certifications to ISO 19650-1, 2:2018 and ISO 19650-5:2020 for building information modeling (BIM).  This integrated approach to governance strengthens Janus’s operational resilience, supporting digital transformation and the safe handling of sensitive data in a highly competitive and evolving industry.

Adrian Lo, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SOCAM said: “The construction industry, while rooted in tradition, is undergoing a dynamic evolution. We continuously refine our innovation strategies and integrate advanced technologies, including AI, into our operations to drive digital transformation – enhancing productivity, elevating safety standards, and advancing sustainability across all aspects of our work.”

Enhancing employee safety

By integrating AI technology – including AI-powered monitoring and alert systems – Janus has improved its ability to detect safety risks on construction sites, strengthened its overall risk management capabilities and ensured that workers operate in a safe and healthy environment.

ISO/IEC 42001 provides standardized guidance that helps employees smoothly adapt to frameworks, reduces uncertainty in operational workflows and supports alignment with evolving market dynamics and the expectations of the next-generation workforce.

Why is ISO/IEC 42001 important?

ISO/IEC 42001 is the world’s first AI management system standard, providing valuable guidance for this rapidly changing technology. It addresses the unique challenges AI poses, including ethical considerations, transparency and the need for continuous learning. For organizations, it sets out a structured way to manage risks and opportunities associated with AI, balancing innovation with governance.

Miranda Kwan, Director of Business Assurance for SGS in Hong Kong, said: “In today's globalized market, AI technology is rapidly emerging as a transformative force. Organizations must establish robust AI management mechanisms to ensure responsible implementation and compliance with international standards. ISO/IEC 42001 provides a structured framework for AI governance and risk management, enabling organizations to meet international benchmarks for transparency and accountability. This not only enhances stakeholder confidence in AI applications but also strengthens corporate competitiveness and supports long-term, sustainable business growth.”

Transforming the construction industry with AI

AI is revolutionizing industries and ushering in a new era of industrialization amid rapid digital transformation. In the construction sector, it is emerging as a transformative force - enhancing safety, improving decision making, and elevating quality control through automated inspections.

For Hong Kong to achieve economic transformation and high-quality development, innovation and technology are essential. The 2024 Policy Address reinforces Hong Kong’s strategic positioning as an international innovation and technology hub.
