Our experts recently attended The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) Supply Chain ESG Promotion and Carbon Verification Conference, which brought together representatives from Towngas group and 47 of Towngas’s major suppliers.
Attendees at the conference praised our S-Carbon comprehensive digital management platform for carbon emissions management. In 2023, Towngas successfully onboarded 31 major suppliers for their gas businesses on the Chinese Mainland, accounting for more than 62% of Towngas Group ’s mainland gas businesses procurement expenditure onto S-Carbon. This enabled these suppliers to digitize their calculations, manage their corporate carbon emissions data and streamline their overall supply chain reporting processes. Towngas plans to increase the percentage of suppliers for their gas businesses on the Chinese Mainland using S-Carbon to over 80% in 2024, and ultimately, to achieve full implementation across its supply chain.
Ms. Miranda Kwan, Director of Business Assurance at SGS, pointed out that Towngas became the first public utility in Asia to implement S-Carbon for supply chain management in 2022, when the company began a trial run. As a leading energy supplier in the energy industry of Chinese mainland and beyond , Towngas not only focuses on its own carbon emissions but also pays attention to the greenhouse gas emissions of its suppliers. By actively establishing consensus with suppliers to reduce carbon emissions and using the S-Carbon platform to collect standardized data, Towngas enhances the implementation of carbon management, resolves data discrepancies and helps suppliers overcome challenges in reporting greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 3).
