In December 2016, EPA issued a final rule to implement the Formaldehyde Standards for Composite Wood Products Act, which added Title VI to the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The purpose is to reduce formaldehyde emissions from composite wood products, which will reduce exposures to formaldehyde and result in benefits from avoided adverse health effects.
This final rule includes formaldehyde emission standards applicable to hardwood plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and particleboard, and finished goods containing these products, that are sold, supplied, offered for sale, or manufactured (including imported) in the United States.
Effective on August 9th, 2023, SGS Hong Kong becomes the only, to date, Third-Party Certifier (TPC) in Hong Kong to be accredited by International Accreditation Service (IAS) for Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) & California Air Resources Board (CARB) on Formaldehyde Emissions from Wood products (see our accreditation certificate here).
