While all machinery vibrates, monitoring excess vibration in rotating equipment is key to early identification of asset issues.

Vibration monitoring systems are used for condition-based maintenance of machines and installations. If left unchecked, abnormal machine vibration in assets like motorized pumps can cause operational problems and severe damage, which can prevent excess component wear that reduces equipment lifespan, and risks to personnel safety.

Common failure that can be identified with vibration monitoring:
  • Bearing Failure Stage I, II, III & IV
  • Imbalance
  • Shaft and Bearing Wear
  • Mechanical Looseness
  • Misalignment
SGS Hong Kong is proud to announce our new service on Vibration Monitoring, based on ISO 10816-3, which provides criteria for evaluating the vibration of machinery (having a power above 15 kW and operating speeds between 120 r/min and 15 000 r/min) according to measurements taken on non-rotating parts and a general guideline for determining overall machine condition based on the magnitude of vibration and changes in vibration levels over time, and serves as a general guideline for assessing:
  • Severity of vibration measured on bearing, bearing pedestals or housing of industrial machines
  • Severity of radial shaft vibration on coupled industrial machines

Our test service includes:

TEST ITEMDESCRIPTION
Classification of vibration severity zones
  • A simple method to classify severity of the machine
  • By tracking the vibration velocity against time
  • Vibration velocity check against ISO10816-3 limits
Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) Spectrum Analysis
  • A useful tool for machinery vibration analysis
  • Provide information to help determine the source and cause of problem
  • By tracking the vibration occurring at specific frequencies
