The Life Token CO2Project Holds its Second Follow up Meeting in Valencia

December 14, 2023

On November 28, the entire Life Token CO2 project team gathered at SGS’s offices in Valencia to present updates on this European sustainable forestry project.

Life Token CO2 2TPM Valencia

Life Token CO2 aims to promote a range of services backed by an innovative business plan and scientific studies which will provide knowledge and incentives for the implementation of more sustainable management practices in Europe’s forests.

As part of the Life Token CO2 project, SGS will verify elements of the software platform, specifically, the carbon credit management module and the carbon footprint calculation module for organizations. This covers the stages from data collection and a CO2 equivalent tonnage calculation to an annual greenhouse gas report.

A follow-up meeting on the status of the project’s action points, teams from each organization within the consortium attended: Digiltea, Orthem, University of Castilla la Mancha, Government of the Region of Murcia, and the Catholic University of Murcia. Representing SGS were Alvaro Pérez, Director of the Murcia Region Delegation, Noelia Martínez, Director of Sustainability and Climate Change in the Levante area, and Cristina Gironés, Project Manager in the Projects and Innovation department.

The Life Token CO2 project has been in development for a year, during which continuous measurements of CO2 flows has allowed calculation of the total ecosystem respiration in test forest masses. The foundations for each module in the TOKEN CO2 software platform have been developed. During this meeting, the creation of a regulatory framework to support the project's purpose was discussed.

The meeting also served as an opportunity to strengthen the strategic alliances that will drive the continued success of Life Token CO2. With a unified focus and the support of diverse entities, the project positions itself as a benchmark in the fight against climate change.
