SGS has opened a new laboratory in Kulevi, located at the SOCAR Black Sea Terminal.
The laboratory will conduct quality testing of petroleum products, significantly reducing the time between sample collection and the delivery of results to clients.
Previously, samples collected in Kulevi were tested at the SGS laboratory in Batumi, requiring additional transportation and increasing the overall turnaround time. With the new laboratory now operational, petroleum product quality testing is available directly at the terminal, helping to streamline sample logistics and accelerate the delivery of results.
Faster results for efficient operational decisions
Timely access to laboratory test results is particularly important for stakeholders in the petroleum products market, as the speed of quality control can directly affect the efficiency of subsequent operations.
The new SGS laboratory will enable clients to receive test results faster and make timely decisions regarding cargo acceptance, loading operations and other production processes.
For the terminal, this also means reducing the risk of delays associated with waiting for laboratory test results, including potentially reducing vessel waiting time.
By bringing laboratory expertise to Kulevi, SGS is making petroleum product quality control more responsive, improving the efficiency of client interactions and supporting a higher level of service.
Developing SGS laboratory capabilities
The launch of the Kulevi laboratory marks an important step in the development of SGS’s laboratory capabilities in Georgia and the expansion of its petroleum product quality testing services.

The laboratory is currently being prepared for accreditation, which is planned to be completed by the end of 2026.
