BIS Footwear Regulation for India

Learn about current the new footwear regulations from the Bureau of Indian Standards and how SGS can help your testing and application process to achieve compliance.

With legislation constantly changing, keeping up to date with mandatory requirements is essential for your footwear business to achieve trusted and delay-free trading in India. This webinar enables you to explore the latest regulations issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

The Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industries published three Quality Control Orders (QCOs) in the Indian Gazette for Footwear on October 29, 2020. The QCOs for Personal Protective Equipment-Footwear came into force on January 1, 2022. The other two QCOs, for footwear made from all-rubber and all-polymeric material and its components, and footwear made from leather and other materials, will come into effect from July 1, 2022.

Footwear under these categories must conform to the corresponding Indian Standard specified in each order, and must bear the Standard Mark under a license as per Scheme-I of Schedule II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulation, 2018. This does not apply to goods or articles meant for other overseas markets.

Join our expert, Venkatesan, to learn how to place footwear products in India under these regulations – whether your business operates inside the country, or from overseas. Also, discover how SGS can assist with the testing and application process for the BIS footwear license.

This webinar is aimed at footwear manufacturers, brands, buying agents and distributors who are planning to place their footwear for sale in Indian markets. This session will be useful for all compliance teams and quality teams involved in the application process for the BIS footwear license.
