Cementing Services

Avoid operational delays and ensure the integrity of your well throughout its lifetime with services ranging from ultrasonic testing and cement thickening analysis to replica and field metallurgy.

Lab testing is an essential part in the cementing process. It is needed to ensure the pumping of a safe and reliable cement slurry with the required cement properties to last the life of a well. Testing ensures the slurry meets specifications for mixing, density, pumping times and compressive strength development at downhole conditions. Quality control analysis of dry cement blends also ensures a stable slurry for use and can flag up issues with the blend.

SGS can help you ensure that your cement meets the required specifications so you can avoid operational delays, including increases in rig time, and ensure the integrity of your well throughout its lifetime.

Through our laboratory expertise and custom technologies provided at our in-house cementing services lab, we can provide a range of services, from quality control through mixing and testing, including thickening time analysis and compressive strength development using ultrasonic cement analyzers.

Our cementing capabilities

  • In guidance with API RP 10 journals, we offer:
    • Density measurement of cement blends using a helium pycnometer
    • XRF analysis to determine percent silica flour in the cement blend
    • Lightweight spheres contamination
    • Slurry mixing
    • Slurry density measurements by true weight balance
    • Thickening times testing, including HPHT
    • Ultrasonic cement analyzers to determine compressive strength, including HPHT
    • Rheology: viscosity and gel strength
    • Free fluid
    • API sedimentation
  • In guidance with API RP 13 journals, we also offer oil and water-based mud verification, including:
    • Density measurement of dry weighting agents such as barite, hematite, micromax
    • Mud density (true weight balance and densitometer for smaller volumes)
    • Rheology: viscosity and gel strength
    • Retort analysis
    • Flashpoint testing
    • DCM shale analysis (non-API method)
In addition, our cementing lab’s verification services offer reassurance that cement contractor slurries are fit for purpose by confirming results obtained from tests covered by API RP SPEC 10 standards.
