Chemical EOR - When, Where and How?

Join this webinar to understand when and how to implement the right cEOR technology in a cost-effective manner while reducing risks.

Chemical enhanced oil recovery (cEOR) technologies have shown potential to significantly increase oil production in many oilfields worldwide. cEOR can be the most cost-efficient way to increase reserves. However, cEOR does pose significant challenges, such as complexity of the downhole processes, limitations in facilities, high cost and late return on investment.

Since every project needs to be customized to the individual reservoir and surface facility characteristics, it is important for operators to make the decision on when, where and how to implement a cEOR project to reduce both costs and risks.

This webinar will provide an insight into when and how to implement the right cEOR technology in a cost-effective manner while reducing risks.

Objectives

At the end of this webinar, you will be able to:

  • Understand when cEOR can be best applied
  • Realize the steps required for successful cEOR implementation
  • Recognize the key parameters that facilitate the reduction in cost and risk of cEOR
  • Appreciate the value of an independent team that understands and can integrate all aspects of cEOR

Agenda

  • What is cEOR
  • Where and when can cEOR be applied
  • cEOR workflow
  • Recent learnings and advances in cEOR technology
  • Value creation in cEOR

Background

During the last decade, SGS has been involved in a variety of IOR and EOR operations for oil and gas operators in the North Sea, North Africa, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Eastern Europe.

SGS’s expertise in EOR covers a broad range of activities from screening and feasibility studies, integrated reservoir studies, pilot design, full field static and dynamic modelling, to financial calculations, lab experiments, core flooding, risk management and HSE.

In EOR, chemical injection is one of the major areas of expertise for SGS where innovative technologies and integrated workflows to support the field operator in the selection of appropriate and economically feasible EOR technologies have been developed.

Target Audience

This webinar is for reservoir, production, operations, process engineering disciplines, reservoir management, production and asset managers.

Presenters

Yani C. Araujo, Global Manager EOR Lab Services, Analytical Services, The Woodlands, Texas.

Dr Araujo has over 26 years of worldwide experience in the oil industry (E&P) working for oil major operators and services companies. She has worked in formation rocks and fluids laboratory testing, equipment design, planning and reservoir engineering related positions. During the last two decades, Yani has been involved in the design and analysis of IOR/EOR laboratory tests, focusing on chemical and gas injection. She has also been involved in the development of laboratory instrumentation and integrated units for core-flood testing.

Dr Araujo has a solid scientific and engineering background, with hands-on experience in analytical spectroscopy methods, surface science, material characterization, rock and fluid analysis, and other related areas, such as formation evaluation including well log analysis and advanced core and fluid analysis and EOR tests. In her current role, she is a seasoned advisor of research and development projects in the oil and gas area, focusing on EOR at laboratory scale, and commercial projects that required consulting and training for laboratory topics. Dr Araujo is an active member of SPE and OTC as editor, chairman and author of papers, focusing on rock-fluid interactions and chemical EOR.

Joop deKok, Senior Reservoir Engineer, Subsurface Consultancy, Voorburg, The Netherlands.

Joop has close to 15 years of experience in performing integrated subsurface studies with a special focus on dynamic simulation. His experience includes complex topics, such as EOR (steam injection, ASP flooding, polymer flooding CO2 injection), reservoir souring, gas storage and tight reservoirs (shale gas, tight gas, fractured basement). Joop has applied his expertise on a wide variety of reservoirs, fluids and geographical locations, such as Romania, Austria, Yemen, North Sea, West- and North Africa, Kuwait, Malaysia, etc. – in both offshore and onshore settings.
