China issued an updated version of its product standard QB/T 1193-2023 - Down and feather quilts. The revised standard became effective on November 1, 2023.
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has issued an updated industry standard for down and feather quilts – QB/T 1193-2023. Included in No. 7 announcement on approved industry standards in 2023, it has replaced the previous version QB/T 1193-2012 and became effective on November 1, 2023.
Scope
This standard covers the design, production, inspection and sale of down quilts, feather quilts, composite down quilts and composite feather quilts. It is not suitable for the design, production, inspection and sale of quilts where the filling materials consist of down/feather with other wadding materials.
Main technical requirements
Requirements include general safety technical requirements, internal quality, appearance quality and technique quality.
- For general safety technical requirements, the outer shell and the interior lining shall comply with the provisions of GB 18401 or GB 31701
- For internal quality, the requirements for filling materials shall comply with the provisions of Table 1 in QB/T 1193-2023, and the outer shell and the interior lining shall comply with the provisions of Table 2 in QB/T 1193-2023. Among them, the test items for filling materials includes down/feather quality, AP and APnEO, pH, mass deviation of filling materials and other filling materials quality; the test items for outer shell and interior lining includes fiber content, dimensional change after washing, colorfastness to rubbing, colorfastness to washing with soap and soda, down-proof property and air permeability
- For appearance quality, the product shall comply with provisions of Table 3 in QB/T 1193-2023
- For technique quality, the product shall comply with provisions of Table 4 in QB/T 1193-2023

- Requirements for claimed washable product: ‘dimensional change after washing’ and ‘colorfastness to washing with soap and soda’
- Internal quality requirements for interior lining
- Requirements for ‘the metal remains of broken sewing needle’ and ‘missing, detached and skipped needles’ in technique quality
- Requirement for ‘same colour’ in the batch process
- Requirements for ‘multiple down and feather quilt combination packaging’
- Sample preparation requirements for layered and divisional products
- Explanation of the degree for scattered defects
