SafeGuardSToys and Juvenile ProductsAugust 18, 2023

SG 107/23

Brazil has revised its compliance date for pacifier suppliers to adapt the layout of the conformity identification seal. The new effective date will be June 30, 2024.

In 2021, Brazil issued Ordinance No. 301/2021 (Portaria No. 301, de 12 de Julho de 2021) to establish the consolidated conformity assessment requirements for pacifiers (the Ordinance).

The Ordinance contains provisions relating to, inter alia, conformity assessment requirements, Product Certification Bodies (Organismo de Certificação de Produto, OCP), certification models, certificates of conformity (CoC) and specifications for the Conformity Identification Seal. The adaption of the Conformity Identification Seal was later revised from December 2021 to December 2022 (SafeGuardS 162/21 and references therein).

On August 9, 2023, Brazil’s Ministry of Development, Industry, Trade and Services/National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology issued an amendment to further delay the date of adoption of the Conformity Identification Seal from December 31, 2022 to June 30, 2024 (Annex II to the Ordinance).
