Presentation on PFAS in firefighting foams

On October 8 at 9:40 am, our Country Manager of the SGS Environmental Analytics team, Ariadna Macip, will deliver a presentation entitled: “PFAS in Firefighting Foams: Regulations and Analytical Methods.”

PFAS have been widely used in aqueous film forming foams (AFFF) because of their effectivity in combatting fires with flammable liquids. However, it has caused contamination of the soil at, for example, aviation, petrochemical, industry and military sites. As a result, regulations on the use of PFAS in AFFF are becoming increasingly stringent across Europe. Our presentation at Intersoil will cover existing and future regulations.

Also, the demand for reliable and accurate PFAS analyzing methods is growing. However, analysis is complex, as the regulatory framework includes not only individual components but also associated substances, such as PFAS precursors. The presentation will provide an extensive overview of existing analytical techniques, their applications and limitations, as well as the latest advances in this field.
