Sustainability and traceability are now essential across global feed, food, biomass and energy markets. Organizations are increasingly required to demonstrate credible, verified performance against environmental and regulatory expectations.
The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system provides a globally recognized framework to verify sustainable production, responsible sourcing and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions performance across multiple markets. With the largely harmonized ISCC EU, ISCC CORSIA and ISCC PLUS schemes, organizations can obtain up to three certificates through one audit, depending on their target markets.
What does ISCC focus on?
ISCC is built around core sustainability principles, including:
- Sustainable cultivation of biomass
- Protection of land with high conservation value and biodiversity
- Reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
- Improved supply chain traceability and accountability
Which ISCC schemes are available?
ISCC EU
Recognized by the European Commission under the Renewable Energy Directive (RED III) and by the United Kingdom under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation. It verifies compliance with sustainability and GHG saving criteria, including for waste and residues, as well as Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO) and Recycled Carbon Fuels (RCF).
ISCC PLUS
A voluntary sustainability certification for plastics and chemicals, food and feed markets and biofuels outside the European Union and the United Kingdom.
ISCC CORSIA
Applicable to sustainable aviation fuels, supporting compliance with sustainability and GHG criteria under the ICAO CORSIA framework.
Which markets can benefit?
ISCC certification supports a wide range of sectors, including:
- Circular and bio economy
- Food and feed industry
- RFNBO such as green hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol
- Alternative transport fuels, including biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuels
How does SGS support ISCC certification in MENA region?
