SGS and BDN Drive Infrastructure Excellence

October 14, 2025

Earlier this year, we announced our collaboration with the Blue Dot Network (BDN), a global initiative elevating quality infrastructure standards and catalyzing sustainable investment. Established by leading governments and supported by over 200 stakeholders worldwide, the BDN offers a transparent, voluntary certification scheme to help infrastructure projects meet internationally recognized benchmarks for sustainability, resilience, economic efficiency and inclusivity.

As an accredited certifier, at SGS we play a pivotal role in verifying whether infrastructure projects align with the BDN framework’s 80+ global standards, which span planning, financing, construction and operations. Our expertise gives project developers and investors the confidence that certified projects are future-ready and investment-worthy.

Francesca Cerchia, Global Head of Climate Solutions at SGS, explains: "With the Blue Dot Network, we are helping build a pipeline of infrastructure that is not only technically sound, but also socially and environmentally responsible. This certification offers project owners a competitive edge in securing financing and demonstrating leadership in sustainable development."

Global infrastructure needs are immense – expected to reach USD 18 trillion by 2040 – yet capital remains heavily skewed toward developed markets. BDN certification bridges this gap by making sustainable infrastructure more visible, bankable and credible. For investors, it streamlines risk assessment, increases asset value and builds confidence by demonstrating alignment with international standards. For governments and communities, it ensures long-term value creation. For developers, it simplifies ESG compliance and opens doors to capital.

This work supports our IMPACT NOW for sustainability movement at SGS by advancing infrastructure that meets today’s ESG expectations and tomorrow’s global benchmarks.

Safety inspections in Egypt: Looking beyond functionality to protect people

Equipment may appear to be operating normally, yet hidden safety deficiencies can still put people, assets and operations at risk. While functionality is important, it should never be considered the only measure of safety.
Independent inspections play a critical role in verifying that equipment operates safely and complies with applicable standards and regulatory requirements. Whether in industrial facilities, commercial buildings or infrastructure projects, comprehensive inspections help identify potential risks before they become incidents.
