Servier Egypt’s Certification Journey with SGS: Strengthening Sustainability, Safety and Quality through ISO Standards

October 23, 2025

For Servier Egypt, implementing international ISO standards was more than a compliance exercise – it was a strategic decision to align operations with global best practices in quality, environment, health and safety, and energy management. Certification through SGS not only validated this commitment but also reinforced Servier’s mission to protect patient safety, reduce environmental impact and deliver sustainable value to society.

Building an Integrated Management System

Servier Egypt, a subsidiary of Servier Group, is a multinational pharmaceutical company. With operations across two sites in Cairo, the company specializes in manufacturing and packaging of high-quality medicines.

Servier Egypt’s certification journey began in 2012 with ISO 9001 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management). Over time, the company expanded its management systems to include ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management), reflecting a holistic and integrated approach. Each certification required meticulous preparation, strong employee engagement and continuous alignment with evolving ISO requirements.

One of the key challenges was harmonizing processes across two separate sites while strengthening documentation and embedding a culture of sustainability and safety. Rather than obstacles, these challenges became opportunities – driving collaboration across departments and fostering a mindset of continuous improvement.

Value of the SGS Partnership

SGS audits have played a vital role in Servier Egypt’s journey, providing external insights that go beyond compliance. The audits highlighted both strengths and opportunities, reinforcing the importance of risk-based thinking, stakeholder engagement and performance monitoring.

Through this partnership, Servier Egypt has gained:

  • Greater process efficiency and optimized resource utilization
  • Stronger compliance assurance across operations
  • Improved employee awareness and engagement
  • Increased confidence in sustainability and safety initiatives
  • Most importantly, the regular audits confirmed that Servier Egypt’s strategy is on the right track, motivating the company to continually raise its standards
