We are delighted to announce that we have opened a brand-new ISO/IEC 17025 accredited microbiological testing laboratory in South Africa, located in Centurion, a suburb of Pretoria. This increases our food safety testing capabilities in South Africa, complementing the services provided by our existing agriculture and food laboratory in Maitland, Cape Town.
Safety and quality are critical factors in the food value chain, influencing both your business's viability and the marketability of products. The new laboratory offers ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing services for food, animal feed, water and facility hygiene testing. It currently boasts six permanent members of staff and five support staff, supported by the SGS management team based in the Maitland, Cape Town laboratory. This is the first phase of a three-year growth plan for our Centurion-based laboratory with continuous improvements planned to improve turnaround time for test results.
The Centurion laboratory’s microbiological testing capabilities
The SANAS and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited testing laboratory offers pathogen, hygiene indicator and functional food testing capabilities. Our current testing range covers basic microbial/pathogen testing for food, feed and environmental samples (water and swabs).
Our regional food safety testing capabilities
The new Centurion laboratory furthers our food and water safety testing capabilities throughout the northern region of South Africa, with our laboratory in Cape Town servicing the southern region.
The ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory in Cape Town has been operating for over 12 years. Its 40 laboratory technicians, analysts and operational managers offer 53 accredited chemical and microbiology food testing methods, with 16 approved technical signatories.
