Ukraine has regulated the release of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances in teats and soothers containing elastomer and rubber materials. The new law will apply from April 28, 2023.

In August 2022, Ukraine’s Ministry of Health consulted over its draft Order on the release of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances from elastomer and rubber teats and soothers (SafeGuardS 106.22).

On October 28, 2022, Ukraine issued Order No. 1734 of September 24, 2022 ‘On the Approval of the Criteria for the release of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances from elastomer or rubber teats and soothers’ (Order No. 1734/2022) in the nation’s Official Gazette. The new law contains several important provisions. It:

  • Describes the procedure for the preparation of saliva test solution
  • Details the sampling procedure and indicates the type of instrument to be used for determining the release of N-nitrosamines and N-nitrosatable substances
