Working Together in the Interests of Our Planet

SGS is among a few industry leading companies that piloted the project to encourage and support Gafta members to contribute towards a sustainable future for agricultural trade.

We are committed to sustainable business practices and will be pleased to share our expertise to contribute to a positive change for the international trade of agricultural commodities and the wider world. As a part of the Gafta committee, we are working on development of an exciting new platform which encourages the sector to drive towards a sustainable future in a collaborative, community-minded mission.

Sustainability is embedded in our culture and the way we do business and our purpose is to enable a better, safer and more interconnected world for all stakeholders. Our sustainability leadership has been recognized internationally with a top rating from Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI), Dow Jones Sustainability Indices, EcoVadis and more.

"I'm delighted that we can collaborate with Gafta to continue leading the way towards a sustainable future for the agricultural trade industry. We are committed to achieving the highest possible sustainability standards and look forward to sharing our experiences and insights with the wider community," Paul Harrison, SGS Global Vice President for Agri Commodities, Gafta Council Member.

What is the Gafta Sustainability Pledge?

The Gafta Sustainability Pledge aims to raise awareness among Gafta members and the wider industry of the steps needed to create a sustainable model. Gafta first announced the scheme in 2019, in response to the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These set out a 15-year plan in 2015 to address poverty, inequality and climate change, and as a member of the International Agri-Food Network (IAFN) Gafta has championed the effort to help achieve these goals.

“Through the Gafta Sustainability Pledge, we are actively raising awareness of sustainable business practices among our members and how the international trade of agricultural commodities has a role to play in meeting the needs of today, without compromising future generations’ ability to meet their needs. It was important to Gafta to work with a pilot group of members including SGS and utilize their expertise and experiences to develop a successful membership benefit so that we can act as an industry together pushing for positive change,” Jaine Chisholm Caunt, Director General, Gafta.

Committed to Our Industry, Community and Planet

By joining the pilot project and demonstrating our sustainability credentials, we have shown our commitment to an inclusive approach to driving positive change. We are determined to maintain sustainability in our business practices, acknowledging the different requirements and possibilities of every case.

SGS is pleased to be included in Gafta's Sustainability Pledge Directory that allows us to use the logo to raise awareness and promote sustainability principles in the industry. We will continue supporting Gafta in its work on sustainability to protect the planet and enrich the communities, sharing our findings for mutual benefit.
