A capacitor is a very common component in electronic equipment. The updated standard EN IEC 60384-14:2023, Fixed capacitors for use in electronic equipment – Part 14: Sectional specification – Fixed capacitors for electromagnetic interference suppression and connection to the supply mains sets requirements for capacitors used in electronic equipment.
Significant changes:
- The numbering of the standard has changed
- The number of test pieces in group 2 has been increased from ten to twelve
- In the Damp Heat test, half of the capacitors must be at their rated voltage during the test
The transition period for the current EN version (from 2013) ends on 1 March 2026 (DOW), but electronics/ITAV device manufacturers should already check that the capacitors meet the requirements of the new standard when purchasing components now.
