The Department of Defense has sought a resilient supply chain for more than a decade. Voluntary compliance with NIST standards proved ineffective. In January 2020, CMMC was introduced but required multiple presidential transitions, along with 32 CFR and 48 CFR, to gain approval. The phased implementation begins November 10, 2025. Implementing these controls requires understanding the requirements, documenting them properly, implementing them effectively, and building a system that is practical to sustain.
