Airports are under increasing pressure to act on climate change, from their internal leadership and employees to their external stakeholders such as investors, creditors, policy makers, supply chain partners, and consumers. This presents many challenges, depending on internal competencies and an understanding of external requirements. For years, airports worked individually to address their local. Today, they are acting in a collective way.
The Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program is the only institutionally-endorsed, global carbon management certification program for airports. It independently assesses and recognizes the efforts of airports to manage and reduce their carbon emissions through six levels of certification: ‘Mapping’, ‘Reduction’, ‘Optimization’, ‘Neutrality’, ‘Transformation’ and ‘Transition’. It provides airports with a common framework for active carbon management with measurable goalposts.
Ursula Antunez de Mayolo has verified over 60 airports worldwide in the ACA program. She has 18 years of GHG experience and is 1 of only 2 approved ACA verifiers in North America for Levels 4 and above. She will be sharing about the ACA program, its benefits to airports, common pitfalls to avoid and tips for success at each level.
