Don’t miss Hugh de Souza on January 13th for our live webinar as he shares how SGS technologies can be applied to critical metals during exploration.
Exploration for critical elements crucial to the development of new technologies has increased rapidly over the past decade given supply concerns roiled by geopolitical factors. For many of these elements their deportment may not be sufficiently well understood to enable resource valuation as grade alone is not a predictor of economic value. For exploration companies under pressure from stakeholders to provide results quickly, SGS developed the FAST program that includes technologies such as pXRF, FTIR, and automated core scanning. These can generate an abundance of chemical and mineralogical data at low cost to allow detailed characterization of core. Such data provide a sound basis for exploration targeting using machine learning approaches (XploreIQ), for informing the metallurgical flow sheet, for geometallurgical modelling or even for mine planning purposes. Examples such as the use of pathfinder elements from pXRF analysis of exploration core, rapid FTIR determination of Li minerals and REE distribution from XRF core scanning will be discussed.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand how new portable analytical technologies can provide rapid fit-for-purpose data on drill core that can result in improved resource evaluation.
- Insight into how FAST data can contribute to continuous updating of drill programs improving targeting.
