Ensure customers receive goods in acceptable condition and avoid losses caused by shipping and handling with reliable good quality packaging.

SGS’s packaging material testing is simple, fast and inexpensive. We will make sure your packaging materials meet your specification and provide the protection required.

Packaging and paper testing utilizing ISTA and ASTM D-4169 procedures will help you minimize product damage and degradation during transport and distribution. In the EU packaging and packaging waste are regulated by Directive 94/62/EC. For higher levels of environmental protection packaging can also be tested against Directive 94/62/EC Reduction of heavy metals, Decision 97/129/EC Harmonization of national measures, and Decision 1999/177/EC Conditions derogation for plastic crates and pallets.

Employing an ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) certificated laboratory, such as SGS, gives you peace of mind. When your package design passes ISTA testing you can be assured that it will protect the product from the expected hazards experienced in everyday shipping. The ISTA Transit Tested Program benefits you through improved protection and reduced losses, reduced or eliminated claims, shorter product development times and increased customer satisfaction. Qualifying ISTA members may display the Transit Tested Certification Mark on their packaging.

Our transport packaging solutions testing laboratories are ISTA, NMFC, UN/DOT, IATA certified and cover a full range of ASTM and TAPPI procedures. We are also COFRAC accredited for food contact testing.

Primary and secondary packaging products tested include paper – corrugated and plastics products, paper and plastic bags, paperboard boxed, pallets, plastic bottles and film, and glass.
