China introduces new requirements for washable thin quilts, impacting testing, labeling and product quality requirements.
The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has issued a new textile industry standard, FZ/T 62053-2025 for washable thin quilts. The standard was included in the No. 13 Announcement of Approved Industry Standards for 2025 and came into effect on February 1, 2026.
Scope
This document applies to thin quilts intended for direct use and washing. Other products may refer to this document for implementation. It does not apply to washable thin quilt products intended for infants aged 36 months and under.
Terms and definitions
Washable thin quilt
A washable quilt product made by sewing together two layers of fabric with filling material in between using an appropriate method. It is a lightweight quilt with a filling mass per unit area of not more than 150 g/m².
Requirements
The general safety technical requirements of the product shall comply with the Category B requirements specified in GB 18401. For children's products, the general safety technical requirements shall comply with the Category B requirements specified in GB 31701. Fibers used as filling materials shall comply with the requirements of GB 18383.
The internal quality requirements shall conform to Table 1 of this document. Test items include fiber content, filling mass deviation, dimensional change after washing, appearance smoothness after washing, pilling resistance, fiber leakage resistance, color fastness to light, color fastness to washing with soap or soap and soda, color fastness to perspiration, color fastness to rubbing.
The product requirements also include appearance quality and workmanship requirements.
Instructions for use
Instructions for use shall comply with GB/T 5296.4. Instructions for children's products shall additionally comply with GB 31701. Other information may also be included where necessary.
Product specifications shall include finished width (cm), finished length (cm) and filling mass (g).

Manufacturers, brand owners, importers, distributors, testing laboratories and quality control personnel involved in producing, testing, certifying and selling washable thin quilts in China. The standard applies to washable thin quilts intended for direct use but excludes products designed for infants aged 36 months and under.
When does it apply?
The standard was published as FZ/T 62053-2025 and came into effect on February 1, 2026.
