SGS Awards Huawei ISO/IEC 42001 Certification, Strengthening Responsible AI

March 17, 2026

During the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, we awarded Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management System certification, recognizing the company's commitment to responsible artificial intelligence governance. The certification covers Huawei's five core business areas, including ICT infrastructure, terminals, cloud, digital energy and intelligent automotive solutions.

This achievement demonstrates that Huawei's AI governance framework aligns with international standards and reflects a structured approach to responsible AI development. The certificate ceremony was attended by Sean Yang, Global Cybersecurity Officer at Huawei, and Aymeric Riverieulx, Head of Innovation, Mobility and Digital Trust Assurance at SGS.

Advancing responsible AI

Artificial intelligence is rapidly integrating across industries worldwide. As adoption increases, responsible AI has become a key priority for organizations and regulators. Challenges related to algorithm security, data governance and ethical use require robust and standardized management frameworks.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) developed the ISO/IEC 42001 standard to address these needs. The standard provides a certifiable framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an artificial intelligence management system. It supports organizations in managing AI risks while ensuring transparency, accountability and responsible innovation.

Through the certification audit, we assessed Huawei's AI governance practices across the entire lifecycle, including data management, model development, deployment and operational monitoring. The results confirm that Huawei has embedded responsible AI principles throughout its governance framework, supporting effective risk management, compliance and operational performance.

This certification also forms part of our broader SGS DIGITAL TRUST services, designed to help organizations strengthen confidence in digital technologies by addressing cybersecurity, privacy protection, artificial intelligence governance and digital compliance across the entire technology lifecycle.
