The Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) and Uganda’s National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) have approved SGS as a provider of Pre-Export Verification of Conformity (PVoC) for equipment and materials for Oil and Gas projects in Uganda.
On behalf of the Ugandan government, PAU and UNBS implement conformity assessment of specialized materials and equipment for oil and gas projects. Under the PVoC program, products to be imported into Uganda will undergo testing and verification at their country of origin. A Certificate of Conformity (CoC) will be issued demonstrating that the products meet the requirements of the applicable standards and technical regulations before shipping.
The program will begin Q1 2024.
Conformity assessment elements undertaken in this program include physical inspection prior to shipment, sampling, testing in accredited laboratories and document verification.
This program ensures that imported materials and equipment for the oil and gas sector comply with all applicable Ugandan standards and technical regulations, to safeguard the health and safety of the people of Uganda, protect the environment and ensure asset integrity.
Uganda has 6.5 billion barrels of oil reserves, with at least 1.4-1.7 billion barrels estimated to be economically recoverable. Its gas reserves are estimated at 672 billion cubic feet of gas, with 499 billion barrels of non-associated gas and 173 of associated gas.
