Join our free webinar to learn about our environmental E-DNA service and its applications.

SGS is a world leader in providing tailored field sampling backed by state-of-the-art analytical services. Our environmental DNA (E-DNA) service provides you with an in-depth look into biodiversity. Whether you need to detect rare or invasive species or pathogens, or unlock biodiversity through the full power of next generation sequencing SGS provides the insights you require.

In this presentation, our experts will use various case studies to explain what E-DNA is, how it works and how it can be applied. You will learn where and how samples can be acquired and how “metabarcoding” can be applied to determine the species presence in an area. We will explain our view on biodiversity and how we've tailored our services to address various applications and project types.

Agenda

  • General introduction to SGS
  • Our global Environmental & Marine service offering
  • What is E-DNA and how does it work?
  • What are the benefits of using E-DNA?
  • Case studies An overview of our service offering
  • Q&A

Background

E-DNA is the genetic material released by an organism into the environment. Its sources are numerous and include shed skin and hair, body secretions, feces, seeds and pollen. By deploying molecular techniques, E-DNA can be captured, amplified and/or sequenced to identify the recent presence, relative abundance and/or distribution of a given species or whole communities.

E-DNA has revolutionized our ability to analyze biodiversity at a fraction of the time it costs to conduct conventional ecological monitoring.
