Scope of the Mandate
Rice is a strategic commodity and essential food staple for Indonesians, and therefore, production, supply and distribution of rice are very important activities instrumental to self sufficiency in food, increased income and welfare of rice farmers, as well as to stability of supplies to the Indonesian people in general; in view of this it is necessary to govern the import of rice.

Description of Actual Services Provided by the SGS Staff
In its capacity as the sub contractor of the Surveyor named in the Decree for the verification or technical survey of rice imports, SGS:

a.  conducts an administrative verification on identity and authenticity of licenses, including all other conditions required to be met by the Rice Producer Importers and Registered Rice Importers.

b.  conducts a  field verification of various information and data on the country of origin of the rice, rice seeds suitable for germination (benih), glutinous rice (pulot), rice flour and other flours, the HS classification, the description of the goods, the quantity and type, the date of shipment and port of destination.

Places evidence of inspection on the packaging of the rice, rice seeds suitable for germinating (benih), glutinous rice (pulot), rice flour and other flours which have been subject to the verification or technical survey, in the form of seals or labels.
