Geological Analysis

From regional basin analysis and frontier exploration through prospect generation to field appraisal and development planning, SGS OGC provides high quality geological support tailored to meet the global oil industry’s needs. Benefiting from a wide-range of expertise from regional sedimentological and sequence-stratigraphic and structural exploration studies through focused field-level static reservoir descriptions and borehole image interpretations, it is our breadth and depth of understanding and belief in cross-disciplinary thinking that drives our approach to geological problem solving.

We offer services in the examination and interpretation of wireline logs, cuttings and cores from a variety of basin settings and depositional regimes, together with the amalgamation and presentation of this data through sophisticated mapping techniques. SGS OGC synthesizes significant understanding of modern day sequence stratigraphic concepts with expertise in depositional environments and facies analysis to offer both regional and field-scale depositional modelling support. We also possess experience in regional play fairway mapping - the essential tool for acreage evaluation, licensing rounds, asset acquisition or disposal.

Additionally we provide services in the interpretation and application of structural geology to help identify hydrocarbon sources, migration pathways, traps, and to understand fault and top seal mechanisms, so as to provide robust solutions for reducing risk and uncertainty in all phases of hydrocarbon exploration and production.

Our internationally renowned geological modelling capabilities enables SGS OGC to apply these comprehensive geological skills to construct realistic geological models driven by structural and sedimentological concepts with the aim of de-risking hydrocarbon developments. Our geologists routinely work alongside geophysicists, petrophysicists and reservoir engineers to ensure full integration of all data and interpretations. Structural geologists integrate with seismic interpreters to generate a geometrically consistent structural framework that includes faults, layering and unconformities. Sedimentologists establish conceptual models that drive the creation of a realistic 3D stratigraphic framework, facies and rock property models. Given that most of our geological models serve as input for dynamic reservoir simulations, our reservoir engineers are involved at an early stage: incorporating observations from core analysis, pressure tests, well tests and fluid analysis to understand flow units within the reservoir, but also during transfer and upscaling from static to dynamic reservoir model.

SGS OGC’s extensive geological skills portfolio has been developed during a history of delivery of exploration and production projects as far apart in Europe, West Africa, Middle East and Far East. We use industry standard software (Petrel, Roxar-RMS, and GoCAD) and where appropriate integrate these with specialized packages (EarthVision, Juxtaposition, Terrastation). The breadth of experience and facilities enables the rapid design and completion of both geological and integrated studies that are required for exploration and production strategies.
