SGS Portugal Proudly Supports Inauguration of a Traffic School for Young People
Horta da Areia is a community center located in the city of Faro.
It was created to promote the social integration of individuals and families in the district and alleviate the social discrimination, exclusion and poverty faced by the Roma community, which accounts for around half of local inhabitants. The facility provides an after school recreation center, the Atelier of Free Time (ATL), for Portuguese Roma and Non-Roma children aged between 5 and 13 years.
In December 2015, the Trust School in Carnide launched a challenge to employees of SGS Portugal to renovate the play area for the 80 or more children using the ATL. Within a month, 21 SGS employees and several of their families had volunteered their time to create a traffic school where children could play and learn the basic rules of road safety. On January 21, 2016, the traffic school was inaugurated, with the Managing Director of SGS Portugal, João Marques, as well as several SGS employees, attending the event.
