SGS is proud to be one of 14 sponsors to support the Comme Un Seul Homme sailing initiative.

Skipper Eric Bellion is a graduate of the Lyon Management School and the Copenhagen Business School. He tutors in management, specializing in disability and diversity issues and is a passionate campaigner and charitable donor. He is about to enter the Vendée Globe race for the first time with the idea of promoting diversity using the sporting event as a global communications platform.

As an established ocean racer and adventurer, Eric took part in the Integration Challenge, where he skippered a mixed crew of able-bodied and disabled sailors. For Eric, handicap does not mean disability; on the contrary, he believes that “performance can result from such diversity”.

In the 2016 Vendée Globe aboard ‘Comme un seul homme’, Eric aims to show the widest audience that diversity can achieve great things. The Vendée Globe is one of the most difficult races in the world, and the 2016 race will test Eric to the limit. The race is the most publicized French sporting event ahead of Roland Garros and the Tour de France. Participants sail around the world from west to east, via the three great capes of Good Hope, Leeuwin and Horn. A long descent of the Atlantic Ocean, is followed by the perilous crossing of the South Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, before finally sailing the Atlantic to return to Les Sables d'Olonne, the starting and arrival point of this “Everest of the seas” race.

In September 2015, in the run up to the event, SGS invited employees, to prepare a short film based on one of five values connected with the challenge: Dare to be different, Trust, Innovation through Collaboration, Target Collective Performance and Exalt as a Team. The two-minute videos will be uploaded and employees will be invited to vote on their favorite, with the winners being invited onboard the Comme Un Seul Homme boat.
