Operational Integrity (OI) is the term we use to describe our health, safety and environmental management approach. The Chief Executive Officer has ultimate responsibility for OI across the Group, and the Vice President Operational Integrity, who reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer, is responsible for driving our OI strategy, objectives and core programs.

At SGS, we have a clear strategic ambition to lead our industry with best-in-class standards on safety, health and the environment. This ambition is championed by our leadership team and is enshrined in the SGS Code of Integrity, the new SGS Business Principles and our revised SGS Health, Safety and Environment Policy statement.

OI Strategy

Striving for zero incidents demands a global safety culture that is based on a continuous commitment to making personal and co-worker safety an integral part of everyday working lives. We are building this culture through a redefined Operational Integrity (OI) strategy based on seven pillars (see diagram below) which is underpinned by a Group-wide operational integrity management system (OIMS) that is aligned to internationally recognized standards of health, safety and environment.

A key component of the seven pillars strategy is a ‘top page’ cascading and deployment process, aligned to the EFQM model, which allows the Global OI objectives and the Top-Page to be integrated across the organization, at functional, regional and affiliate levels, prior to deeper deployment in our operations in 2016. This process allows us to focus on specific programs, such as incident investigations, training, hazard identification and correction, leadership visits and best practices.
