Why This is Important to SGS

GRI Content: G4-DMA, G4-SO2

SGS is committed to supporting projects that have the potential to change lives in communities where SGS employees live and work. Our involvement in communities is an important part of the way we do business and provides an opportunity for our employees to engage collectively in initiatives they care about. At SGS, we rely on our reputation within communities to attract talent and to build relationships that contribute to local economic and social development. The majority of our community projects are associated with raising our profile and improving our reputation locally, promoting corporate volunteering as well as enhancing employee engagement and improving teamwork.

In line with our 2020 Sustainability Ambition to increase the scale of community investment and to align with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the SGS Global Community Program has been re-organized around three core themes: Education, Empowerment, and Environmental Sustainability.

In line with our 2020 Ambition to increase community investment by 30% using a 2014 baseline, we will focus effort on encouraging more active involvement of employees through community volunteering. We will implement guidelines on employee volunteering to the affiliates, which includes sections on measuring the impacts of volunteering on society.
