Ad Hoc AnnouncementsAcquisitionsFebruary 02, 2018

SGS is pleased to announce the acquisition of TraitGenetics GmbH (TraitGenetics), Germany.

Headquartered in Gatersleben near Berlin, TraitGenetics utilises state-of-the-art technologies for the development and analysis of molecular markers for plant breeding research. The company provides services across a wide variety of crops to international clients in the plant breeding industry and for academic research.

Founded in 2000 as a spin-off from the Leibniz Institute, TraitGenetics employs 17 staff and generated 2017 revenues in excess of EUR 3.5 million.

“This acquisition is aligned with our plan for Agriculture, Food & Life to further extend our capabilities in molecular biology and genetics,” said Frankie Ng, CEO of SGS. “It will expand our expertise in plant breeding services, and will strengthen our ability to support our clients’ ambitions to reduce time-to-market in the seed industry.”
