Turkey Adds Substances to Control List in Market Surveillance for Footwear Products

SafeGuardSAugust 11, 2017

The Turkish Ministry of Economy has recently announced new customs controls for footwear products that are subject to market surveillance. Official Gazette 29236 added new restrictions for phthalates, Chromium VI and Dioctyltin (DOT) to the control list. The new controls became effective on July 10, 2017.

Turkey has recently added additional substances to its list of restricted chemicals. These substances are subject to the market surveillance on all imported footwear products. In addition to the current phthalates requirements, this update adds chromium VI and dioctyltin (DOT) to the restrictions. The changes became effective on July 10, 2017.

For Cr VI:

  • All accessible leather parts will be checked, regardless whether the part comes into contact with skin.
  • Limit: 3 mg/kg

For DOT:

  • Footwear or parts of footwear intended to come into contact with skin will be checked.
  • Limit: 0.1 %
