SafeGuardSBaby red shoes pair

Industrial standard QB/T 2880-2016<Children’s leather shoes> was approved and issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of  the People’s Republic of China, and was implemented on January 1, 2017. This updated version was based on and replaced QB/T 2880-2007<Children’s leather shoes>. It is applicable to children’s leather shoes and infants’ leather shoes used in daily life if the shoe size is not above 250 and the shoes are for children who are not more than 14 years old.

It is the first time QB/T 2880 has been updated since it was first issued nearly nine years ago. The new version adds two test items, the pull-out strength of the upper sole and safety properties. Mandatory standard GB 30585 was added as a normative reference. The significant technical updates are summarized in the table below:

Item Technical Requirement of New Version Significant Update
Appearance Quality
  • Meet the requirements in Table 1 in QB/T 2880-2016
  • No requirement to show Chinese shoe size
  • For shoes less than size 150, the thickness of the forepart of the outsole after reducing the pattern depth is exempt from testing
Flexing resistance
  • Non-leather outsole: The cut length after flexing ≤30.0mm. No more than 3 new cracks, each crack ≤5.0mm. No bonding failure on upper-sole, foxing, welt and side-wall. No peeling off on combined sole. No delamination on sole and side-wall.
  • Leather sole: No more than 3 new cracks, each crack ≤5.0mm. No bonding failure on upper-sole, foxing, welt and side-wall. No peeling off on combined sole. No delamination on sole and side-wall.
  • Modified the requirement of appearance change after flexing
  • Added two exempt testing conditions:

      1) The bending angle during rigidity test at 30N <45°
      2) The thickness on flexing position of sole >25mm

Abrasion resistance
  • ≤15.0mm
  • If the outsole is abraded through or there is under-cure phenomenon, it is judged as failed.
  • Added the judgement of abraded through or there is under-cure phenomenon during testing
  • Added one exempted testing condition: Testing is exempt for leather outsole or synthetic leather outsole
Peeling strength
  • ≥ 40N/cm
  • > 30N/cm (When materials have been torn but the upper and sole are still bonded)
  • Added the condition of replacing peeling strength by pull-out strength
Hardness of outsole
  • Solid sole: 45~65 Shore A
  • Cellular sole: 45~65 Shore C
  • Modified the requirement, which divided into solid sole requirement and cellular sole requirement
  • Added four exempt testing conditions:

      1) Leather outsole
      2) Imitation leather sole
      3) Combined sole
      4) Thickness of outsole <3mm

Adhesion strength between outsole and midsole
  • ≥ 20N/cm
  • ≥ 15N/cm (when cellular sole has been torn but still bonded)
  • Revised the test method to GB/T 21396-2008
Pull-out strength of upper-sole
  • ≥ 70N/cm
  • Alternative for peel strength under certain conditions
  • New Addition
Flexing index of shoes fiberboard
  • ≥ 1.9
  • No change
Color fastness to rubbing of lining and insock
  • ≥ Grade 3
  • Requirement included for cases where there is no lining
Flexing resistance of upper material at low temperature
  • comply with requirement of QB/T 2224
  • Added the applicable condition
Safety properties
  • Shoes with heel height >20.0mm and heel breast height >8.0m, the shoe must be assembled with a steel shank or other rigid support materials. The heel breast height shall not be more than 15mm
  • Shank test is exempt for injection molded midsole, but the midsole shall comply with the longitudinal stiffness requirements of QB/T 4862-2015
  • Safety properties shall comply with GB 30585
  • New addition

As the new version of the standard has become effective, children’s leather shoe companies should update the labeling of their products accordingly and follow the technical requirements in the new standard in order to legally sell their products in the China market.
