SGS Sponsors The ALF Art & Money Laundering Conference 2017
SGS is sponsoring – and will attend – the Art Law Foundation’s “Art and Money Laundering: Responsible Art Market Practice Guidelines” conference in Geneva on January 26, 2017.
As part of a working group alongside the ALF and other members of The Responsible Art Market Initiative (RAM), SGS’s art services experts helped to create the Guidelines for the prevention of money laundering within the art market. Criminal activity of this kind has become more prevalent as the volume and value of art transactions has increased alongside the number of buyers, sellers and agents worldwide.
RAM – whose members include galleries, dealers, auction houses, advisors and service providers – officially launches the Guidelines at the event, which coincides with the artgèneve art fair (January 26-29) at the city’s Palexpo exhibition center.
SGS’s services for art collectors, auction houses, museums and other stakeholders focus on artwork due diligence. This helps to ensure that the art has not been subject to any illicit trade or dealings. Other aspects of due diligence concern investigating the parties involved in an exchange of an artwork and the transactions between them.
SGS can help participants in the art market to maintain their reputations and avoid unwittingly becoming complicit in illegal activities. The company’s pragmatic and effective solutions, including its auditing services, allow those involved in art transactions to demonstrate that they are applying best practices.
