SGS is pleased to announce an expansion of its service offering in the Rocky Mountains, the world’s foremost high altitude natural proving ground, with a new state-of-the-art 4,800 square foot user facility.

The facility will be available to manufacturers, designers and program engineers to aid in developing and testing products for use in high altitude and cold temperature operation.

The SGS Rocky Mountain Testing Center in Empire, Colorado is located at 8,900 feet above sea level. It features three 50 ft x 20 ft temperature-controlled bays and one dedicated workshop that can accommodate various types of equipment, machinery and vehicles. Each bay is individually keyed and features video surveillance, guest Wi-Fi, office areas and private restrooms.

In addition, each site can reach temperatures as low as negative 22 degrees Fahrenheit, or negative 30 degrees Celsius, and provide vehicle exhaust ventilation as well as on-site fuel storage. SGS will also provide local engineering and calibration services for cold start and drivability assessments.

“The Rocky Mountain Test Center is a unique and exceptional state-of-the-art facility allowing manufacturers to conduct high-altitude cold start and drivability testing,” said Anthony Beck, Director of Operations, SGS. "While this facility will support many real world applications, it will also provide the ideal environment to support efforts in reducing emissions on a global basis.”

Designed as a base of operations and staging area to support on-road testing campaigns taking place around the I-70 corridor, the facility is centrally located near popular vehicle development venues including Berthoud Pass, Hoosier Pass, Vail Pass, Loveland Pass, Dillon, and Mount Evans.

“This new facility is an ideal complement to the services performed at our variable altitude and emissions testing center in Aurora, Colorado which serves as a vehicle and engine laboratory for many leading manufacturers," Anthony added. "We are proud to offer this unique solution to our customers and to expand SGS’s North American portfolio."

SGS's Environmental Testing Center has provided cold testing services in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado since 1998.
