SGS 2015 Sustainability Report

SGS today publishes its seventh annual sustainability report. This online report is aligned to the Global Reporting Initiative’s (GRI) G4 reporting framework at ‘Comprehensive’ level, and it provides a detailed description of our sustainability approach. Alongside our online report, we have begun to integrate sustainability into our annual report and accounts, with more substantive detail appearing in the SGS 2015 Annual Report.

2015 delivered another year of solid sustainability performance, with highlights including:

  • SGS named Industry Leader, Gold Class distinction in the 2015 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) for both Europe and World regions, for the second consecutive year
  • SGS named by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) as Industrials Sector Leader and Country Leader in the Germany, Austria and Switzerland region
  • SGS remains a carbon neutral company, with absolute CO2 emissions decreasing 5.1%, and greenhouse gas intensity as a proportion of revenue and of headcount decreasing 8.9% and 8.2% respectively. In the same period our Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) grew by more than 2.8%, and revenue grew more than 3.6%
  • 1,071,353 hours invested in occupational health and safety training

Our Sustainability Ambitions 2020 outline nine pivotal goals organized around our sustainability pillars: Professional Excellence, People, Environment and Community. These include:

  • Delivering measurable sustainable value to society
  • Maintaining our natural turnover rate at no more than 10%
  • 30% of leadership positions to be held by women
  • Reducing our Total Recordable Incident Rate and Lost Time Injury Rate by 50% (using a 2014 baseline)
  • Implementing mandatory low emission fleet cars
  • Reducing our annual CO2 emissions intensity (by FTE) by 20% (using a 2014 baseline)
  • Reducing our annual CO2 emissions intensity (by revenue) by 20% (using a 2014 baseline)
  • Increasing our investment in communities around the world by 30% (using a 2014 baseline), primarily through volunteering
  • Linking our management incentive plan to sustainability performance
