Zambia Press Release

In response to increasing demand for farming support in Zambia, SGS has opened a new soil, plant and fertilizer testing laboratory in Kalulushi.

Serving farming communities in Zambia and the surrounding sub-Saharan countries, this laboratory increases SGS’s capacity to deliver soil and crop fertility services across the region. This new facility takes SGS’s service provision in the country to a new level and supports the country’s agricultural expansion by delivering timely and effective testing, as well as analysis and sampling.

Farmers are now able to access the company’s high standards and quick turn-around-time analyses of soil and plant samples locally. This means that local farmers can access vital services more effectively throughout the growing season, thereby helping them to improve crop yields and quality.

SGS offers Zambia’s farmers a wide range of independent services including:

  • Soil chemical gridding
  • Soil classification
  • Crop inspections
  • Yield data management
  • Semi detail bush surveys
  • Fertilizer recommendations for certain soil types and crops

These services enable farmers to manage soil fertility more accurately and with a positive impact on profitability. This information is especially important in a sector where inputs are becoming more expensive and farmers need to apply finances optimally on each farm.

SGS recently showcased its new services at the 2015 Agritech Expo held in Chisamba - Zambia, exhibiting Precision Farming Services and introducing its new Laboratory facilities to the country’s Agriculture industry.
