Fast, efficient and highly accurate, SGS India has adopted new micro bead based transgenic protein detection methods to identify the presence of GMO in crops.

Conventional transgenic protein detection methods, used to identify the presence of genetically modified (GMO) crops, are laborious and time-consuming. To address this issue, and the needs of clients, SGS has adopted a new, highly sensitive, technology that can perform the same tests and deliver equally accurate results, but in a fraction of the time.

Micro Bead Based Detection

The new method is based on a micro bead based detection system. This is very accurate and sensitive in comparison to the existing antibody coated ELISA plate methods, which are used worldwide. Our laboratory in India operates this new technology, and the advantages for clients are its potential for high throughput, ease of use and excellent sensitivity. Micro bead based detection is currently being used in India to detect transgenic proteins in GMO cotton seeds. The method can be replicated in other regions for trait analysis of cotton, corn, soya and other GMO seeds.

This micro bead based detection system is more economical compared to any existing commercial ELISA kits available for the delivery of transgenic protein detection or quantification.

GMO crops are modified to improve resistance to pests and herbicides, as well as increasing yields and productivity, without compromising nutritional value. As the use of GMO crops increase, the fast, accurate and efficient analysis of transgenic protein integrated is a growing concern.
