SGS is pleased to announce that their geochemical laboratory in Kalulushi, Zambia has been successfully accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for copper and cobalt analysis. This accreditation demonstrates technical competency for the determination of copper and cobalt by atomic absorption spectrometry methods AAS42S and AAS42D, and the operation of a laboratory quality management system. The accreditation program is monitored by the South African Development Community Accreditation Service (SADCAS).
 
The Kalulushi laboratory maintains a broad suite of analytical techniques to suit clients’ mineral testing requirements. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and consistent, industry-leading methodologies and quality control procedures. SGS’ professional staff maintains high standards of quality and procedural excellence to ensure accurate, repeatable and timely data. Kalulushi’s in-house analytical capabilities include:

  • ICP-OES multi-element analysis
  • Atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) for copper, cobalt and other base metals
  • Base metal settlement umpire
  • Fire assay
  • Environmental laboratory services

The Kalulushi facility strategically supports the growing needs of the African minerals industry and complements SGS’ unmatched laboratory network in Africa and globally. SGS operates over 150 commercial, on-site and Mobile Sample Preparation Unit (MSPU) geochemical laboratories, 12 metallurgical facilities, 5 mineralogy facilities, over 120 energy minerals labs, 33 fertilizer labs and 75 trade offices. Of these sites, 5 labs located in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile and South Africa provide fully integrated geochemistry, environmental, metallurgy and mineralogy (GEMM) services and 3 provide integrated geochemistry-metallurgy services in Liberia, Peru and Russia. Many of SGS’ geochemistry laboratories comply with the ISO/IEC 17025 standard for specific registered tests.
